How Vehicle Branding Delivers the Lowest Cost-Per-Impression in Marketing

A branded vehicle in Accra's traffic is seen by an estimated 30,000-70,000 people every single day. No media buy. No renewal. No ad fatigue. The numbers make a compelling case.

Vehicle branding is frequently treated as a minor marketing tactic, something you do when the fleet gets new vehicles, a box to tick on the brand guidelines checklist. The data tells a completely different story. A single well-branded vehicle, driven in normal business operations in Accra's traffic, generates between 30,000 and 70,000 impressions per day. That is a one-time design and print cost, with no media buying, no digital targeting budget, no campaign renewal.

The Cost-Per-Impression Calculation

A premium full vehicle wrap in Ghana costs between GHS 4,000 and GHS 12,000 depending on vehicle size and material quality. A commercial vinyl wrap has a lifespan of five to seven years in tropical climates with proper maintenance. On the conservative estimate of 30,000 impressions per day over five years, that is approximately 54 million impressions per vehicle. The cost-per-thousand impressions (CPM) works out to roughly GHS 0.15, a fraction of the CPM for radio, outdoor hoarding, or even social media advertising in the Ghanaian market.

Types of Vehicle Branding: Choosing the Right Level

  • Full wrap, covers 100% of vehicle surfaces. Maximum impact, highest cost, best for brand-led communications
  • Partial wrap, covers rear, sides or panels only. Effective cost-to-impact ratio for standard company identification
  • Spot graphics, logo, contact details and web address on doors and rear. Entry-level brand presence
  • Rear window perforated vinyl, allows driver visibility while creating a full-surface branding opportunity on the rear
  • Fleet livery system, standardised design across multiple vehicles. Creates brand presence at volume; essential for businesses with 5+ vehicles

Design Principles for Moving Media

A vehicle is a billboard in motion, and it is often seen at speed, in changing light conditions, from multiple angles simultaneously. The design must function when the vehicle is moving, stationary in traffic, parked, and seen from the front, rear and both sides. This means maximum contrast, large type, a single primary message, and a clear brand mark that reads instantly. Contact details and web addresses should be on the rear and sides where dwell time is highest. Avoid complex gradients and fine typography, they do not survive the translation to vinyl in direct sun.

Maintenance and Getting the Best from Your Investment

A vehicle wrap in Ghana's climate requires specific care to reach its full lifespan. Wash with pH-neutral soap and a soft cloth only, pressure washing can lift vinyl edges. Keep the vehicle garaged or in shade when not in use. Avoid petroleum-based cleaning products near vinyl edges. Inspect and reseal any lifting edges within 48 hours of detection. A well-maintained wrap in Ghana's tropical climate should last five years; a neglected one may need replacement in three.
